Learner Agreement

Welcome to Pilcher Pots - The School!

To ensure the smooth operation of our classes, certain guidelines are essential. By participating in classes at The School, you are agreeing to adhere to these regulations and our Terms & Conditions.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
Please be mindful of the start and end times of your session, as our tutors and staff require a brief window to prepare the studio for the next group.

Ceramics is an art that embraces variability and unpredictability in its results.

We capture photos and videos of studio life and student projects, often shared on social media. Should you prefer not to participate, please inform us.

In case you miss a session, notify us via email (pilcherpots@gmail.com) or consult a staff member in the studio. We'll endeavour to arrange a makeup session. Regrettably, sessions can't be carried over between terms.

If you decide not to continue into the next term, please inform us as soon as possible.

EQUIPMENT & WORKSPACES
After using tools ensure they're cleaned and returned to their designated spots.
Clean your workspace after each session, leaving it as you'd wish to find it. Do not remove any tools, books, or equipment from the studio without prior authorization.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Wear appropriate clothing, including closed-toe shoes.

For wheel use, you're welcome to bring your own towel.

Leave valuable jewellery at home.

Access a first aid kit through staff if needed.

Masks are provided for sanding, to be done outdoors or over a sink with running water.

Avoid eating and drinking around work areas.

Switch off the wheels before cleaning them.

Use a damp cloth/sponge for cleaning, as sweeping can spread clay dust.

While using oxides, always wear a mask, and abstain if pregnant (please inform staff).

Kiln area entry is restricted.

In case of evacuation, assemble at the car park at the rear of the school.

GLAZING

If you need more slips, stains, oxides, or glazes, consult staff for assistance.

Confirm with staff before mixing or combining glazes.

Ensure the bases of your work are wiped and free from excess glaze.

You're responsible for costs if your work damages kiln shelves due to glazing errors.

Utilize the glazing sink for cleaning equipment after using glazes, slips, and oxides.

FIRED WORK

We retain the right to decline firing if it jeopardizes other work or our kilns' safety.

External work isn't eligible for our firing service.

STUDENT WORK

Handle your work and belongings carefully. Do not touch items that don't belong to you.

Wheel-thrown work will be stored on shelves and wrapped the following day due to its delicate nature.

Wrapped bags/bats contain fragile student work.

Handle bisque-fired, unglazed work with extreme care.

RECYCLED CLAY

Separate recycling tubs are provided for soft clay, hard clay, and slip. Please segregate clay to facilitate recycling. Mixing hard and soft clay impedes recycling.

Your cooperation ensures a harmonious and creative environment at The School. Thank you for your understanding and adherence to these guidelines.
